Residential roofing

Roofing for houses that have to get through a Cincinnati winter

Seven counties, two states, and housing stock that runs from 1890s brick in Over-the-Rhine to 2005 subdivisions in Union. What those roofs have in common is a climate that freezes and thaws all winter and a storm record dominated by wind.

What we do

  • 01Roof replacementFull tear-off, deck inspection, and the layers underneath that nobody sees.
  • 02Roof repairFixing the actual defect rather than sealing the symptom.
  • 03Storm damageWind and hail assessment, documented against recorded storm dates.
  • 04Emergency tarpingStopping water getting in tonight, before anything else is decided.
  • 05Metal roofingStanding seam and metal panel, and when it genuinely makes sense.
  • 06Low-slope residentialPorch roofs, additions and flat sections that shingles cannot cover.
  • 07Roof inspectionA written record of condition, with photographs, before you need one.

The local pattern

Ask anyone in this trade what damages roofs here and the honest answer is wind. Between 2021 and 2026 NOAA logged 304 damaging thunderstorm-wind events and 58 hail events across Hamilton, Butler, Warren, Clermont, Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties. Hail happens, and when it does it is concentrated — the largest on record in that window was 2 inches in Butler County in May 2025 — but the routine damage is wind lifting shingles at the eaves and rakes.

That changes where a roof needs to be right. Wind uplift starts at the edges, so the starter course, the drip edge and the nailing pattern matter more here than the brand printed on the shingle wrapper. You can check what is on record for your ZIP code against the NOAA database.

What the housing stock asks for

Era and areaWhat is usually up thereWhat it needs watching for
Pre-1940 city neighborhoods — Hyde Park, Mt. Adams, Over-the-Rhine, Clifton, Norwood, Columbia-TusculumSteep slate-era framing, built-in box gutters, complicated dormers and valleysBox gutter linings, valley detailing, and flashing at the many wall-to-roof joints
Post-war suburbs — Norwood, Delhi, Green Township, Fort Mitchell, ErlangerSimple gable and hip roofs, often on their third shingle layer historicallyDeck condition under old layers, ventilation that was never brought up to date
1990s and 2000s subdivisions — Mason, West Chester, Liberty Township, Union, IndependenceLarge architectural-shingle roofs with multiple planes and penetrationsPipe boots reaching the end of their life, and valleys carrying a lot of water
Hillside and river-facing properties — Mt. Adams, Price Hill, Fort Thomas, LudlowExposed elevations with little shelter from the prevailing windEdge detailing, because that is where an exposed roof starts to peel

How the work is organized

  1. Look at it properly

A roof is assessed from the roof and from inside the attic, not from the driveway. Photographs of what is actually wrong are worth more than an opinion.

  2. Say what is wrong in plain words

You should be able to repeat the diagnosis to somebody else and have it make sense. If a report is only a list of line items, it is not a diagnosis.

  3. Separate urgent from important

A cracked pipe boot is urgent. A roof with five years left is important. They are different conversations and they should not be bundled into one number.

  4. Do the work

Licensed and insured local roofing professionals, permits where the jurisdiction requires them, and the deck inspected once the old material is off.

Not sure whether you are looking at storm damage or wear?

Do you work in both Ohio and Kentucky?

Yes. The service area is Hamilton, Butler, Warren and Clermont counties in Ohio, and Boone, Kenton and Campbell counties in Northern Kentucky.

Is an inspection free?

Yes, and it comes with photographs of whatever was found. That is true whether or not the outcome is work.

How do I know if the damage is old?

Storm Check lists the hail and damaging-wind events NOAA recorded near your ZIP code with dates. That will not tell you whether your roof was damaged, but it tells you which dates are worth asking about, and which are already past the twelve-month mark most policies work to.

All work is performed by licensed and insured local roofing professionals.
