Hamilton County
Roofing in Delhi Township
A west-side township on the Ohio River hillsides, settled in the eighteenth century and built out over the twentieth.
The housing stock
The area was first settled by European Americans in 1789 with the founding of the village of South Bend. When Hamilton County was incorporated the following year, the village lent its name to South Bend Township, which covered what is now Delhi. The name was originally spelled "Delhigh". Delhi Hills, Delshire and Mount Saint Joseph are among its unincorporated communities.
Residential development across the river hillsides and the flatter ground behind them.
What we look at on a roof in Delhi Township
- Hillside exposure. A river-facing elevation takes wind the sheltered streets behind it never see, and wind damage starts at the edges.
- Access on steep and narrow hillside streets, which decides how a tear-off is staged.
- Post-war housing with the layer-count and deck questions that come with it.
What the storm record actually shows
Within five miles of the center of 45238, NOAA recorded 2 hail events and 13 damaging-wind events between 2021 and 19 May 2026. The largest hail on record is 1″ on 30 March 2025. The strongest recorded gust is 70 kt (81 mph).
That ratio is the point. Wind outnumbers hail here by a wide margin, which is why the starter course, the drip edge and the nailing pattern do more for a roof in Delhi Township than the impact rating printed on the shingle wrapper. Wind damage also does not look like damage from the ground: a creased or unsealed shingle sits flat and looks fine until the next storm takes it.
Storm Check lists every one of these events with dates, sizes and distances for ZIP 45238.
